all patients should follow the advice of health officials and get the proper

We are currently speaking to many clients who have been contacted by UPMC about a potential exposure from improperly cleaned ultrasound probes at UPMC Jameson Hospital in New Castle.

While officials say “related health risks are extremely low”, all patients should follow the advice of health officials and get the proper testing for diseases including Hepatitis C. UPMC says it has contacted all patients who may be affected and will offer free testing to them to ensure their health and safety.

As stated in a KDKA article, “ UPMC reported an internal quality assurance review at UPMC Jameson found that the proper cleaning process was not documented and followed for some ultrasound probes used in internal prostate, obstetrical and gynecological exams. Any related health risks are extremely low.

Corrective measures were immediately implemented. A report was filed with the Department of Health, and we have notified The Joint Commission.”

The Danger is Real

According to Attorney Dallas M. Hartman, “our office has handled similar exposure lawsuits in Pittsburgh and across the country. You never expect to see something like this in your hometown. There is a reason policies and procedures for decontamination exist and hospitals should be held accountable for exposing their patients to harmful disease causing pathogens.”

Anyone who has been contacted by UPMC or has any concerns about the exposure is welcome to call our office for a free, confidential consultation.
